This blend is one of our most popular and we wanted to share with you a story about how it came to be....
Firstly, let's ask......Why ?
Remember how coffee used to taste before we all became so absolutely obsessed with reaching that holy grail of a "perfectly clean cup" or "fruit bomb".
The coffee industry somehow lost it's soul and character - racing off in various, different directions.......sour, lemony, pucker-faced, under-developed fruity unpleasant brews or ultra smooth, flavourless and utterly boring coffees that lacked any sense of excitement factor.
It was as if having a personality in the cup was a sin and instead of the actual coffee providing enjoyment, the entire agenda had been hijacked by hipster baristas with their beards, incoherent rants about farms and processing methods, tatts and of course those uncomfortably tight black jeans cut a few inches above their bare ankles.
Well, we think that needed to change - so we brought back coffee with a bit of charisma.
We regularly develop new and interesting blends for our customers - private label clients, contract roasting arrangements and specialty cafes needing something unique and individual to stand out in what is now today an increasingly competitive and saturated coffee market within Australia - everyone is looking for that "edge".
Some of these great coffees end up in Roaster's Choice and we often have customers requesting repeats of these custom coffees.
It's been a few years since we created a new blend to keep in our store as an on-going product and back in 2015 the itch for something new and different was becoming unbearable to the point of distraction.
Se we laid out a brief with a very clear and singular goal - if we introduced something new, it had to create a realistic "wow" moment - a memorable experience.
This blend coincided with our major investment in new facilities - aptly named this new coffee blend Centre Way.
Centre Way is a high-end offering - as such, we have slotted it in our exclusive list of "Grand Cru" coffees.
It's a seasonal blend which basically means it will change - roughly every 12 weeks or so.
We are not going to list out the individual beans that are used in Centre Way - unfortunately, the coffee industry is rife with imitators only too eager to copy our hard work.
Centre Way is roasted in a similar style to our other blends with the exception that we stop the roast a fraction short to retain clean, sparkling acids, fruit and showcase the distinct complexities of fabulous beans used to craft the Centre Way blend.
The result is cup of honey sweetness, with soft aromas of hazelnut and plum moving to flavours of caramel and vanilla with a fruity lime twist at the finish and a long milk-chocolate after-taste.
Best enjoyed with milk, we think this coffee is indeed something rather special.
Every now and again its good to let loose with all barrels blazing.....cranking it up so to speak......
I liken Centre Way to owning a Porsche and taking it out on an early Sunday morning for a blast through empty country roads with tight, winding hills - giving your pride and joy a full-on tilt at the extreme and pushing it to limits.
Centre Way reflects my personal philosophies on how a milk-based espresso coffee should be - devoid of compromises and full of juicy, clean, sweet, complexity with body and finish.
It's all about hitting those peaks but within with some degree of balance.
Anyone can do rich, smooth and creamy - it's so one-dimensional and quite frankly oh so boring drinking it week after week.
Centre Way is about bringing back character in the cup.
In all likelihood, Centre Way will evolve into our most important Specialty Grade Blend........well, that's the dream!
perfect blend for latte31 January 2017the name of this blend really holds true to me , some coffee blends are dull and boring whilst others can be to fruity especially in a milk based latte , but centre way ... well its found the centre way, right in that sweet spot just a hint of the fruitiness , but not overpowering , and with enough character to not be boring , and complimenting this beautifully balanced brew is the kick at the end ..mmm caffeine .... great brew , give it a crack ...
By far the best milk based espresso25 April 2016Centre Way is by far the best milk based espresso I've had at home and better than several blends I've tried in Cafes..I have bought and tried coffee beans from seval local roasters, for my own like and taste when this coffee is in its peak its flavours are awesome. I'd like to try this blend in a Cafe prepared with a high end machine/grinder.
